“Utopia is at the heart of our modernity; yet, throughout the twentieth century, fiction has given rise to many dystopias, totalitarian worlds apparently built on a utopia. This is why the Maison d'Ailleurs wishes to inspect the interdependence between utopia and dystopia by establishing a dialogue between the museum's heritage and the original works of François Schuiten and Benoît Peeters, the fresco of the Vaudois artist Sébastien Mettraux 1) and the drawings of the young artist Louis Loup Collet”.
François Schuiten has designed the announcement poster of the Mondes (im)parfaits exhibition based on a new image.
About 16 original pages of Les Cités Obscures stories will be on display, together with the fresco of the Vaudois artist Sébastien Mettraux and the drawings of the young artist Louis Loup Collet.
The opening of the exhibition will be on Saturday November 16, 2019 at 17 hours.
With the exhibition a book will be published by Les Impressions Nouvelles in corporation with Maison d’Ailleurs. The book will have 128 pages (24 x 32 cm). It is not just a catalog of the exhibition but it is more an extention to the exhibition. The book has a story on both utopia as dystopia, a long interview with François Schuiten and Benoît Peeters and rare and unpublished artwork by Schuiten 2). The book is available in bookstores on November 7, 2019.
Also a super limited edition portfolio (limited to 12 copies) will be available as of November 16, 2019. The portfolio will hold the poster of the exhibition plus six preliminary steps and a certificate, all in digigraphy and bundled in a luxurious box.
François Schuiten shared the making of the announcement poster with the publication of the poster in several steps.
