Le Havre

Le Havre is an urban French commune and city in the Seine-Maritime department in the Haute-Normandie region of north-western France. It is situated on the right bank of the estuary of the river Seine on the Channel south-west of the Pays de Caux 1).

Its port is the second largest in France, after that of Marseille, for total traffic, and the largest French container port. The name Le Havre means “the harbour” or “the port” 2).

UNESCO declared the city centre of Le Havre a World Heritage Site on 15 July 2005 honouring the “innovative utilisation of concrete's potential”. The 133-hectare space that represented, according to UNESCO, “an exceptional example of architecture and town planning of the post-war era,” is one of the rare contemporary World Heritage Sites in Europe 3).

Le Havre is in 2156 a major transport hub located between London and Paris. Kârinh lands here with the Tube. Le Havre has become part of the metropolitan area of Paris and is its port 4).
