2020 AD

2020 AD was the year that changed everything we were used to. Covid-19 influenced all plans for 2020 and changed the way we could live our lives. Despite everything there was still enough to enjoy.

The exhibition Mondes (im)parfaits in Maison d'Ailleurs continued until October 2020. François Schuiten and Benoît Peeters visited the museum once more for the Finish of Mondes (im)parfaits.

In March François Schuiten visited New York for the exhibition Line and Frame. And the first phase of the Octopus Garden in Amiens was revealed in March.

Rebuilding Story worlds, the Obscure Cities by Schuiten and Peeters a book by Jan Baetens was published by Rutgers University Press in June. Rebuilding Story Worlds offers the first full-length study of Obscure Cities series, exploring both the artistic traditions from which it emerges and the innovative ways it plays with genre, gender, and urban space.

From July until November the exhibition Urbatekt varjatud maailmas. François Schuiteni ja Benoît Peetersi arhitektuurikoomiksid was held in Tallinn, Estonia. A beautiful exhibition about Les Cités Obscures. Many people showed up at the opening.The exhibition gave also a preview of the new coloured edition of La Fièvre d'Urbicande.

Benoît Peeters published Sándor Ferenczi. L'enfant terrible de la psychanalyse. The biography was received very well.

The Compelled, a sci-fi novella written by Adam Roberts and the first book-length science fiction publication that François Schuiten has illustrated was published in August.

In September Laurent Durieux and François Schuiten visited Meudon to reveal the print they had made together.

Chocoloco started in October. The exhibition presents twenty original chocolate sculptures made especially for this occasion. François Schuiten, comic strip author and scenographer at Train World, designed the sculptures. Chocolate artists Peter Teerlinck and Bart Steegmans of Sculpture Events took care of the execution of the sculptures.

The main event around Les Cités Obscures was the publication in November of the coloured edition of La Fièvre d'Urbicande. Jack Durieux was trusted to change the album into a coloured edition.

With the release there was an exhibition about La Fièvre d'Urbicande at Huberty & Breyne and a signing session at Brüsel. Atlantic 12 published a beautiful screen print together with several limited prints for the exhibition.

In November François Schuiten and Laurent Durieux joined again “Timeless” and made the VC Morris Sea Cliff print.

Red Team, an initiative of the French Departement of Defence started in 2020. François Schuiten will take part of the team as illustrator together with the Jeanne Bergeron.
